TOEIC Writing Vocabulary by Question Type

Published Updated 2 min read Editorial standards

TOEIC Writing moves from sentence control to workplace communication and extended argument. Writing a sentence from a picture requires grammar and faithful visual meaning. Responding to a written request requires action, status, and next steps. An opinion essay requires a position supported with reasons and examples.

Use the TOEIC vocabulary practice hub for the broader workplace catalog.

Picture sentences

If the required words are review and while, a defensible sentence is:

One employee is reviewing a document while another is writing on the board.

The sentence uses both words naturally and reports visible actions. Do not add an unsupported purpose such as “to prepare an urgent sales proposal.”

Check word form, agreement, connector logic, and visual evidence. While can connect simultaneous actions; because would claim a cause the picture may not show.

Understanding is only the first step.

Lyra Practice helps you retrieve and use high-value workplace expressions in realistic situations until they feel natural.

Email responses

Fictional request: a supplier asks whether a delivery can move from Tuesday to Thursday.

Thank you for checking. Thursday delivery is feasible, provided the shipment arrives before 3:00 p.m. Please confirm the revised arrival window by Monday so our receiving team can update the schedule.

Feasible means practically possible. Provided introduces a condition. Confirm asks the supplier to verify the new arrangement.

Distinguish delay, postpone, and reschedule. A delay makes something late. Postponing moves it later. Rescheduling assigns a different time and may move it earlier or later.

Opinion essays

Employers should offer flexible start times when the work permits it. Flexibility can reduce commuting pressure and help employees coordinate care responsibilities. However, shared coverage still matters in customer-facing teams. A policy with core service hours can preserve that coverage while allowing some individual choice.

The response supports a position, accepts a limitation, and proposes a bounded solution. When the work permits it prevents the recommendation from becoming universal.

Quick check

  1. A picture shows location but not purpose: report the visible action / invented goal.
  2. A new appointment time is assigned: rescheduled / merely delayed.
  3. An arrangement is possible under a condition: feasible / guaranteed.
  4. A personal case makes a reason concrete: example / universal proof.

Answers: 1. visible action. 2. rescheduled. 3. feasible. 4. example.
