Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
Lyra Practice is built for professionals who want to communicate with confidence. We take your privacy seriously and want to be clear about what we collect and why.
The short version
- We collect what we need to make Lyra Practice work for you
- We use AI to provide feedback, which means your practice responses are processed by our AI provider
- We never sell your data
- You can delete your account and data anytime
What we collect
Account information
Your email address and password to create and secure your account.
Your vocabulary and practice data
The words you add to your collection, your practice responses, and how you interact with the app. This is the core of what makes Lyra Practice useful to you.
Usage information
Basic analytics about how you use the app—which features you use, session length, that sort of thing. This helps us improve Lyra Practice.
Payment information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your payment details. We don't store your credit card number—we only receive confirmation that payment was successful.
How we use your data
To provide the service
Your vocabulary lists and practice responses power your personalized experience. Your practice responses are sent to our AI provider to generate feedback.
To improve Lyra Practice
We analyze usage patterns (in aggregate, not individual) to understand what's working and what needs improvement.
To communicate with you
Occasional emails about your account, important updates, or (if you opt in) tips and resources. You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails anytime.
Third parties we work with
AI providers (Anthropic and Google)
Our AI feedback is powered by Claude (Anthropic) and Gemini (Google). Your practice responses are sent to these providers' APIs to generate personalized feedback. Their respective privacy policies govern their handling of this data.
Google Cloud / Firebase
Our infrastructure runs on Google Cloud Platform, and we use Firebase for authentication and data storage.
Stripe
Handles all payment processing. They receive your payment information directly—it never touches our servers.
Analytics (coming soon)
We plan to use privacy-respecting analytics to understand usage patterns. We'll update this policy when implemented.
Data retention
Your data stays as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.
Your rights
Access: You can view all your data within the app.
Export: You can request an export of your data by contacting us.
Deletion: You can delete your account at any time from your settings. This removes your personal data from our systems.
Correction: You can update your information directly in the app.
If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your data.
Children
Lyra Practice is designed for professional adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email or within the app before they take effect.
